
Teatro
Nacional S. João (St. John's National Theatre)
has the mission of developing the presentation of the
wide dramatic repertoire as well as the development of
new drama writings, producing co-producing and welcoming
Portuguese and international shows, helping to make Porto
a national theatrical centre. With the clear intent of
having a resident director / metteur en scène,
Ricardo Pais was appointed in January 1996. Originally
called Real Teatro S.João - designed by Vicente
Mazzoneschi - its opening took place in May 1798. In 1908
it was partially destroyed by a fire and had to be rebuilt
in 1912, by José Marques da Silva. |
