The
Pousadas de Portugal are a chain of over 40 exclusive hotels,
located throughout Portugal, and which were originated in the
1940's. Their very name is synonymous with a unique form of
quality accommodation, where a warm welcome and personal service
awaits every guest. In them you will discover the culture, tradition
and habits of the Portuguese people, not to mention the extraordinary
wealth of the regional cuisine, for which the Pousadas' restaurants
are justly famous.
There are two types of Pousadas: Historical Pousadas, which
are located in national monuments, convents,

castles, or fortresses; and the Regional Pousadas, which are
found in areas of spectacular natural beauty.
Since their early days, the Portuguese Pousadas
have led the way in recuperating Portugal's architectural
heritage, whilst providing an original and high quality tourist
product. They were thus awarded the ASTA (American Society
of Travel Agents) and the Smithsonian Foundation Annual Prize
for hotel groups that played a major role in preserving the
environment and the cultural heritage for touristic purposes.
