Arcos de Valdevez wants to certify “Caminho Minhoto Ribeiro”

#News

The municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Melgaço, Monção, Ponte da Barca, Vila Verde and Braga have established a protocol for the certification of one of the oldest Saint-James Ways: Caminho Minhoto Ribeiro.

The route that connects the north of Portugal to the city of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain, begins in the city of Braga and extends mostly through medieval paths along the six Minho municipalities.

The municipality of Arcos de Valdevez highlights the importance of this project and states that “the certification and consequent restoration of this ancestral path, for the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez and for the region, represents a highly valuable product in terms of tourism, religion, culture and for the development of the territory”.

The restoration of this route will also contribute to the creation of cross-border relations, the promotion of historical and natural heritage and the dissemination of traditions and cultures of the surrounding communities.
