Arouca and Alto Minho are nominated for the TOP 100 Most Sustainable Destinations in the World, in the People’s Choice Award category. Voting takes place online until March 3rd.

The region of Porto and the North of Portugal has two nominees in the run for the “TOP 100 Green Destinations 2021”, an award that recognises the local and regional destinations that have been implementing successful strategies for more sustainable tourism.

Arouca's application " Geosites Route & Paiva Walkways of Arouca Geopark", was presented by AGA - Associação Geoparque Arouca and focuses on the preservation, enhancement and interpretation of natural and cultural heritage, focusing on active management actions, which have been implemented in this territory.

The Alto Minho application was submitted by the Alto Minho Intermunicipal Community, which includes the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Melgaço, Monção, Paredes de Coura, Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira, with a total area of ​​2,210 km2.

Portugal has ten nominations, the maximum number allowed per country. In addition to Alto Minho and Arouca, the list includes Azores, Águeda, Cascais, Dark Sky Alqueva, Lagos, the western region, Serras do Socorro e Archeira, Sintra and Torres Vedras.

Voting is open until March 3rd at https://greendestinations.org/peoples-choice-award/, to vote you just need to enter a valid email, select Europe and click on your favourite destination.
