Braga is nominated for the European Best Destination 2021. The city of Minho is the only Portuguese city among the 20 ones that are in competition which online voting is from January 20th to February 10th via this link.

Two years after being ranked the second European Best destination, Braga was again nominated for being one of the European destinations with the greatest tourist growth and for the rapid and effective implementation of measures to tackle Covid-19. The sustainable development of tourism and the recognition of the city as one of the happiest and with the highest quality of life in Europe, allocated by the European Commission, also weighed on the organisation's decision.

“2000 Anos, Um destino” (2000 Years, One Destination) is the motto of the campaign to call to vote launched by the Municipality of Braga. The initiative highlights the city's wide tourist offer combining history, youth, nature, spirituality, gastronomy, culture and innovation and, therefore, fits into different profiles of travellers and markets.

The winners and nominees of this award benefit from an increase in tourist demand and international visibility, which will help in the economic recovery of the Braga sector after the Covid-19 pandemic. Braga is already one of the 10 most popular destinations for British, Brazilian, Spanish and American travellers on the European Best Destination website for the past 12 months and has been acknowledged by Forbes as one of the best destinations to live and invest in Europe.

European Best Destinations is an institution based in Brussels, created in 2009 with the aim of promoting culture and tourism in Europe. Since 2010 it has awarded the best destinations in the European Union and is already considered the largest e-tourism event in Europe.
