Hoteliers and Owners of Local Accommodation are providing rooms to healthcare professionals who are fighting the Covid-19. All doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants who are away from home or who do not want to run the risk of infecting their family members can request accommodation at their hospital or via the Rooms AgainstCovid-19 platform.

This idea came about as a way to prevent the spread of the virus through the social isolation of the medical personnel, but also so that professionals who work outside their area of residence can have more time to rest, at a time when accommodation units register a large drop in demand.

This industry’s mobilization is happening all over the country by the initiative of owners and individual hotel units that directly contact hospitals and City Halls. Porto City Hall has already announced that the number of accommodation units available to hospitals in the city already exceeds 300.

On the other hand, there are also concerted initiatives between various associations and operators in the sector. One of them is Rooms Against Covid-19, an initiative that came about within Tech4Covid19 and has the support of Turismo de Portugal, Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal (AHP), and Click2Portugal’s website and ALEP- Associação do Alojamento Local in Portugal. The digital platform already has more than 1000 free accommodation offers for healthcare professionals.
