The President of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, was elected to be the presidency of the European Travel Commission (ECT) for the next four years.

The election took place at the General Meeting #99, in which Portugal won 16 votes out of the 29 votes cast. Luís Araújo takes the presidency of an important European organization that gathers 33 National Tourism Organizations from 31 countries, whose purpose is focused on the promotion of Europe as a tourist destination, sharing knowledge about markets and taking on significant sector issues such as sustainability, visa policy, connectivity and work.

One of the main reasons that led to the national victory was the excellent work of Turismo de Portugal in digital and innovation, considered as an example at world level, and the tourist dynamization throughout the national territory.

Regarding the promotion of Europe as the world's main tourist destination, the European Travel Commission and the European Commission established a long-term strategic partnership. The two organizations seek to support the sustainable competitive development of the sector, with tourism research, information sharing and promotion of models both socially and environmentally viable to the activity.
