Porto Municipality extends the “Porto na Praça” initiative to Saturdays

#Porto #News

In light of the positive reception of the “Porto na Praça” initiative, implemented in the Baixa district, Porto Municipality has announced that it will continue the temporary pedestrianisation scheme, extending it to Saturdays as well.

The purpose of this intervention is to strengthen active and sustainable mobility in the city centre, encouraging walking and the use of sustainable modes of transport while increasing opportunities for daytime social interaction. At the same time, it aims to enhance the area’s commercial and tourist appeal, benefiting retail, restaurants and hotels by increasing pedestrian flows and improving the conditions for using public space.

Accordingly, as of 11 July, Praça da Batalha and the surrounding streets will become part of this initiative on Saturdays and Sundays, between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm, creating better conditions for residents, visitors and other users to enjoy the public space.

During this period, car traffic will be restricted. However, access to properties and garages for residents and hotel guests will be guaranteed at all times. Loading and unloading operations must take place outside the period between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm.

According to Porto Municipality, the successful operation of the initiative on Sundays has demonstrated the potential of this intervention to improve the use of public space, justifying its extension to Saturdays and reinforcing the commitment to a more accessible, dynamic and vibrant city centre.
