Faro, Porto and Lisbon are the European cities that receive the most Spanish tourists this year, making Portugal rise to the top of the ranking of the most sought after countries in the neighboring country.
The increase in demand for Portuguese destinations, especially in the Algarve, North and Lisbon, and the drop in demand for destinations in Italy, the United Kingdom and the Emirates, has made Portugal overtake Italy to become the country most sought after by Spanish tourists.
The Algarve now leads the ranking of reservations in the TravelgateX platform, when in 2019 it ranked sixth. But the impact of the pandemic goes beyond the choice of destinations by Spaniards. There has been a 75% increase in last-minute reservations and a reduction in the booking of long flights.
