Safe Travels protocols now available for Adventure Tourism

The latest Safe Travels protocols, from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), focus on measures to ensure the reopening of Adventure Tourism, which is expected to grow after the coronavirus.

The measures proposed by the WTTC aim to restore confidence to tourists, establishing what visitors should expect from this “new normal”, ensuring that tour operators offer safe environments to do the activities. Among the measures, the limitation of time spent inside and the reduction of groups to ensure safety distance are highlighted.

Covering a wide variety of experiences, including cycling, rafting, trekking, skiing, snowboarding, wildlife safaris and culinary tours, Adventure Tourism already registers an increase in demand that is expected to continue in the period after the pandemic.

The WTTC's proposal for adventure tourism was based on the perceptions and structures developed by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), and the collaboration of several important tour operators in the segment, such as Abercrombie & Kent, Eurotur, Intrepid and The Travel Corporation (TTC).

These new protocols were developed with the support of the World Tourism Organization and taking into account the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
