Valpaços invests in Nature Tourism: walkways and new beaches for 2021

#News

Nature Tourism is the great bet of Valpaços City Hall. The Rabaçal ecovia project, scheduled to open next year, includes new beaches and footbridges with passage through Mirandela.

The project aims to attract more visitors to the municipality of Transmontano and comes at a strategic time when tourists favor nature.   The route through the ecovia allows to discover Cachão and Calvo, villages uninhabited since the 60's, explore traces left by the Roman Empire in the region, observe birds and dozens of protected species.

The investment in the order of 2 million euros, includes the construction of footbridges, the installation of changing rooms and an ecovia interpretation centre, the creation of about 70 fishing spots and the creation and development of river beaches. The route will connect Mirandela and Valpaços to the Portuguese Inland Way of Santiago, in Chaves.

The ecovia project was made in partnership with National Geographic and involved a multidisciplinary team, which includes biologists, engineers, ornithologists, geologists and archaeologists. The inauguration is scheduled for 2021.
