#News

This Wednesday, 21 november 2018, Portugal held for the first time ever a Michelin Gala and the good news came right to Porto & Northern Portugal region! In a ceremony marked by decentralization, 4 new stars were announced, half of them to our region. In a region where wine & gastronomy always played an important role in tourism promotion has now 7 Michelin star restaurants!

Bragança (Trás-os-Montes) wins its first ever Michelin Star with G Pousada, a restaurant owned by the brothers António Luís (wines) and Óscar Gonçalves (food),  which G is an hommage to their other surname – Geadas. Located inside the Pousada de Bragança, G Pousada’s inspiration is the traditional cuisine of the region, which takes an important role on the menu, as all the ingredients are traditional and local with a touch of sophistication and nouvelle cuisine.

At the same time, Guimarães (Minho), which has always had the reputation for being one of the most gastronomic cities in Portugal, has finally been recognised and was awarded a Michelin star to “A Cozinha”, a remarkable restaurant with the signature by chef António Loureiro, which has just returned to its hometown after over two decades working abroad. At  “A Cozinha”, you will find 2 tasting menus, one traditional and one nouvelle cuisine, which is inspired on the French gastronomy.

In this ceremony, Midori, at Penha Longa Sintra, has also conquered its first distinction and chef Henrique Sá Pessoa has seen confirmed its success by being awarded with a second Michelin star for his restaurant Alma.
