A new milestone has been reached for the Way of Saint James in Porto and the North of Portugal. The Portuguese Government has officially certified the Torres Route, recognising a historic pilgrimage route that crosses some of the region’s most remarkable landscapes, heritage sites, and cultural landmarks.

Stretching over 180 kilometres and connecting 15 municipalities, from Sernancelhe to Valença, the route combines history, culture, nature, and spirituality, offering pilgrims an authentic journey through the heart of Porto and the North of Portugal.

The route also passes through two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Alto Douro Wine Region and the Historic Centre of Guimarães, while following landscapes and places connected to some of Portugal’s most celebrated writers, including Miguel Torga, Teixeira de Pascoaes, Camilo Castelo Branco, Raul Brandão, and Aquilino Ribeiro.
