A new cruise ship by APT Travel Group and Travelmarvel, one of Australia’s leading tour operators, was launched on 14 April in Vila do Conde, in a celebration that reinforced the growing strategic relevance of Porto and the North in premium cruise tourism.
The event was co-organised by Visit Portugal, Visit Porto and North of Portugal, Vila do Conde City Hall, and The Lince Santa Clara. Guests were welcomed with a reception at Alfândega Régia in Vila do Conde, honouring the city's maritime legacy, followed by a gala dinner at The Lince Santa Clara.
The participants were welcomed by Luís Pedro Martins, President of Visit Porto and North of Portugal, Lídia Monteiro, Board Member of Visit Portugal, and Paulo Vasques, City Councillor for Tourism. They were joined by leading travel media and trade from the UK, Ireland, and Australia — including Travel Weekly, Daily Mail, and The Sunday Times — as well as representatives from TAP and key industry stakeholders.
Their remarks highlighted the strategic value of this partnership — a cruise product built in Viana do Castelo, 80% of bookings coming from the Australian market, and a second ship already on the horizon for 2026/27.
On 15 April, guests attended the official christening ceremony, followed by a visit to the Douro Valley, reinforcing its status as a must-see destination for river cruise travellers.
This launch was more than the arrival of a ship — it was a strong vote of confidence in the region and its communities. APT’s commitment extends beyond the river — supporting local economies, creating international connections, and placing Porto and the North of Portugal at the centre of luxury cruising experiences.
A special thank you to Vila do Conde City Hall, The Lince Santa Clara, Visit Portugal, Visit Portugal UK, Claus Porto, and Vila do Conde Porto Fashion Outlet for their support.
