Porto and the North of Portugal stood out at FITUR 2025, the 45th edition of one of the world’s largest international tourism fairs.

This year's fair emphasized sustainability, diversification, and innovation as key pillars for a more inclusive and competitive tourism sector—and our region delivered on all fronts.

  • 26 companies and several organizations represented the diversity and appeal of our destination;
  • Over 50 strategic meetings were held with airlines, OTAs, tour operators, and agencies, aiming to secure new routes and increase international visibility.

Highlights of the week included:

  • High-level meeting with the President of EMBRATUR, celebrating the successful launch of two new direct routes operated by Azul Airlines, connecting São Paulo (Viracopos) and Recife to Porto and the North of Portugal, further strengthening our ties with Brazil—a growing priority market.
  • A dedicated meeting with representatives from Galicia, consolidating the joint strategic promotion projects between our region and this neighboring destination, reinforcing cross-border cooperation.
  • Spain reaffirmed its position as our largest external market, with over 1.5 million overnight stays in 2024, marking a 2.7% growth compared to 2023.
  • FITUR 2025 broke records, welcoming 255,000 visitors, including 155,000 industry professionals from 156 countries—a testament to the global recovery of tourism.

Representing Porto and the North of Portugal at FITUR 2025 were Luís Pedro Martins, President of Visit Porto and North of Portugal, along with Susana Ribeiro, General Operations Director, Maria Branquinho, Market Manager for Europe, and Cátia Barbosa, Market Manager for Long-Haul Markets.

FITUR was not just another trade fair—it was an opportunity to deepen our connection with Spanish travelers, expand into long-haul markets like LATAM and Asia, and solidify key partnerships for the future.

With Portugal’s largest-ever presence under the Destination Portugal brand, and our region’s focus on growth, innovation, and partnerships, 2025 is already looking brighter.
