Porto and Northern Portugal is nominated for the World Travel Awards, also known as the Oscars of Tourism, in the category of Best Destination in Europe in 2020 in terms of heritage.

The North region is nominated in six other categories. The city of Porto is voting for the Best Destination City Break in Europe, in which Lisbon is also nominated. The Paiva Footbridges can be distinguished as Best Tourist Development Project, Best Tourist Attraction and Best Adventure Tourist Attraction in Europe. Douro Azul is in the race for Best River Cruise Company in Europe and Vila Galé Collection Braga can be awarded the Best Hotel of Reference in Europe.

Portugal is nominated for Best Tourist Destination, Best Adventure Destination and Best Destination for Tours in Europe. Tourism and Portugal is in the race for the distinction of Best Tourism Entity and TAP is nominated in six categories. In total, Portugal is represented in 71 categories of the awards that distinguish the best in European tourism.
