Santuário do Bom Jesus classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site

Santuário do Bom Jesus (Bom Jesus Sanctuary) in Braga, was classified as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, at the meeting of the organization’s committee held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This Portuguese monument is also part of “36 nominations for inclusion on the World Heritage list”, which are being evaluated at the 43rd session of the UNESCO Committee on Heritage, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Baku, Azerbaijan, until 10th July. 

The set comprising the Palace, Basilica, Convent, Cerco Garden and Tapada de Mafra also received the classification of World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. 

The UNESCO World Heritage List currently contains 1,092 sites in 167 countries. Portugal has 17 sites classified in the national territory.
