The Alijó City Hall announced yesterday that it will create the Interpretive Centre "D'Olival ao Azeite D'Ouro", an initiative that intends to enhance and innovate the olive oil produced in the Douro region.

The space will have a permanent exhibition dedicated to the production of Douro olive oil, a charming restaurant, where visitors can try new dishes and new uses of olive oil and its derivatives, and a place to taste olive oil, olives and related products. Local producers will have, in the new transmontana attraction, another opportunity to promote their products and enhance Douro agriculture and gastronomy.

The interpretative centre will be born through the transformation of an old mill in the town of Castedo do Douro, in an investment of 775 thousand euros, co-financed by Community Funds, and expected to last 18 months.
