Porto & North of Portugal is again nominated for the «World Travel Awards», this time in the categories of «Meetings & Conference Destination » and «Heritage Destination». The city of Porto is also nominated in the category of «City Break», an award granted in 2020.

The region maintains its untouchable prestige with regard to tourism, collecting nominations and awards, in different categories and forums, which attests to the reputation, quality and diversity of the destination. Proof of this are the numerous categories, with a total of 13 nominations for the Tourism «Oscars». Right from the start, the region's nominations for "Europe's Leading Heritage Destination 2021" and "Europe's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2021".

To these we also have to add the nominations of the city of Porto for “Europe's Leading City Break Destination 2021”,  the Paiva Walkways in three categories: Europe's Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction 2021, Europe's Leading Tourist Attraction 2021 and Europe's Leading Tourism Development Project 2021, and the 516 Arouca - Suspension Bridge for Europe's Leading Tourist Attraction Development Project 2021. 

The excellence of the Porto & North region and its public and private partners is reflected in the total number of nominations, thus joining the nominations of InterContinental Porto Palácio das Cardosas (Europe's Leading City Hotel 2021), Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa(Europe's Leading Green Hotel 2021), Vila Galé Collection Braga (Europe's Leading Landmark Hotel 2021), Douro Royal Valley Hotel & Spa(Europe's Leading Lifestyle Resort 2021), Pestana Palácio do Freixo (Europe's Leading Luxury Hotel 2021), Hotel Palácio de Canavezes(Europe's Leading New Boutique Hotel 2021) and DouroAzul (Europe's Leading River Cruise Company 2021).

Luís Pedro Martins, President of Turismo do Porto e Norte, understands that “the destination's notoriety is intact, as these nominations and the numerous awards won throughout 2020 prove and as soon as the road traffic and air connectivity allow, we will again have the necessary conditions to reach the indicators that we have recorded in the pre-pandemic period”. The attraction capacity in such different areas is also pointed out by Luís Pedro Martins as “a great competitive advantage”.

The president of Turismo do Porto e Norte also highlights the prestige that the nomination for these awards represents for our country, with Portugal being nominated for five categories. Europe's Leading Destination 2021, Europe's Leading Excursion Destination 2021, Europe's Leading Adventure Tourism Destination 2021, Europe's Leading Tourism Board 2021 (Turismo de Portugal), and Europe's Leading Marketing Campaign 2021 (Turismo de Portugal - Hello World. It's me, Tomorrow).

The results will be known on September 1st, and the voting, open to the public, is taking place at https://www.worldtravelawards.com/vote. Luís Pedro Martins stresses that “it is important that everyone participates with their vote, as one vote can make a difference in this key initiative for the promotion, not only of the destination Porto & North, but also of Portugal’s brand”.

The «World Travel Awards», which this year is in its 28th edition, is one of the most prestigious international awards in the field of tourism, with the panel of judges composed of a qualified group of professionals in the sector.
